Is it worth spending the money to buy a composite or "fire resistant" decking material?
I feel that the jury is still out. Although many composite Decking materials claim to be and probably are flame resistant, what does that actually mean to you as a homeowner? How is it really going to help you when there is emanant fire raging toward your home? Will it block the fire and save your home or maybe even your life? Will the deck be standing and the home burned? Take a look at these pictures from Austin American Statesman and decide what you think:

Ok... So here is my thought: If you like composite decking material because it looks and feels good, then buy it. If you feel that it will save your house, don't let someone sell it to you for that reason. Although some composites and hardwood decking materials will stand up to a flame test and show resistant, you are still going to evacuate and get out of there. Never wait and never think that a decking material is going to save your life! In a situation like we had in Oak Hill yesterday, your deck may look like the pictures above or it may be completely gone. Which on is really better? Have a blessed day!
